Trueno: ...This much sulfur, right?

Wind: Mhm~ But there isn’t enough saltpetre for it to be lethal, is it?

Trueno: Nothing we can do about that, I guess we’ll have to restock…

Abel: Trueno! Wind! Sorry, you got a sec!?

Trueno: Ugh… You again.

Wind: Our answer will be the same, no matter how many times you ask us.

Dolly: Ah… So it’s impossible to convince these guys after all, isn’t it?

Volker: I do not understand.

Trueno: Hm? You…

Volker: Based on my judgment, I had thought you were not by any means irrational rotun, but…

Trueno: ...What?

Volker: You have heard of Nandin, have you not? It is but a guess, but you have already gone and gauged the situation yourself, have you not?

Trueno: ...And what about it?

Wind: What we do is none of your business, now, is it?

Volker: That confirms the fact that you make most rational moves.

Volker: However… That is why I do not understand. If you make such levelheaded decisions, then you should know that being cooperative would be in your best interest, should you not?

Volker: I simply cannot understand the reason behind your refusal.

Wind: Reason? Do we need one?

Volker: Although there are rotun who do not need a reason for that… you two are supposed to be different from the likes of them.

Trueno: That’s insignificant. That’s just prejudice.

Volker: Hm. I see…

Dolly: Wh— You’ve already given up!?

Volker: If I cannot understand their reasons, then there is nothing I can do.

Evan: Uhm… Burgess, what should we do?

Burgess: I’m not sure what to tell you…

Volker: Then, how about this? From now on, the leader of this team will be Burgess.

Dolly: Huh, what!? What are you suddenly—

Volker: If you cannot earn the trust of those two, then perhaps appointing a person they trust as leader might work.

Volker: Trueno and Wind have put a lot of faith in Burgess up until now. Do you agree with this?

Burgess: Wait a minute, isn’t that a bit unreasonable? What matters right now is what Abel and the others have brought up to us.

Burgess: In this situation, we were allowed to join them. A suggestion as stupid as this—

Abel: That’s fine by me, though?

Burgess: H-Hey…?

Evan: Right. If this solves our problem, then there’s no point in making a fuss~

Flost: We came here because we trusted you. I don’t have any particular objections.

Dolly: Well, if you say it like that, then does it really matter who the leader is?

Burgess: No, no, you guys—

Volker: Then it has been settled. How about it, Trueno? Wind?

Trueno: Bullshit.

Wind: Mhm, just talking to us is useless, you know?

Dolly: What the hell, what are you going to be upset about next!?

Trueno: We’re not interested in people like you who leave everything to a leader. What can we do…

Wind: Right, right. All we can do is perish in the middle of battle.

Trueno: Don’t involve yourselves with us anymore.

Wind: Just talking to us is useless, you see? Later.

Dolly: Ah…

Volker: Hm… That was not good, was it. I am sorry, it appears I had miscalculated.

Dolly: Er…

Volker: However, I also came to learn something.

Evan: Hm? You learned something?

Volker: When I had imposed the role of leader onto Burgess, they were noticeably offended.

Volker: As expected, they trust Burgess, and undoubtedly respect him.

Burgess: My apologies... I ended up saying some unnecessary things, didn’t I…

Volker: No, you are not mistaken in your approach. Even if we make a move, we would just be detected by the authorities.(*1)

Volker: And then there is one more thing… Abel, they do not necessarily seem displeased with you, either.

Abel: Huh? For real?

Volker: My tactic of changing the leader that they inconsequentially dismissed, as you should not be so preoccupied with such a title, did not change their attitude...

Volker: ...Even in spite of our generosity. It appears to me that in their opinion, you are walking a fine line.

Flost: ...Though, in any case, we still don’t know their reasons. Asking them to cooperate remains a difficult task.

Evan: Right… And we need time to develop a strategy to capture Nandin, too, don’t we?

Abel: But if we can get those two to work along, won’t makin’ a strategy be easier?

Flost: That’s true, but—

Abel: Then, we should get ‘em to help us out, after all! We’ll probably be quicker that way!

Dolly: Quick? I wonder…

Volker: I do not particularly enjoy proposing one theory immediately after another, but...

Flost: Hm?

Volker: Before you had called out to them, they were discussing sulfur and saltpetre… Presumably in an attempt to create explosive matter.

Volker: The likelihood that these explosives were specifically created for the purpose of capturing Nandin... is big.

Abel: Huh!? B-But why!?

Volker: I thought I had said it was but a theory. However, they DID leave to inspect Nandin…

Volker: ...And considering Burgess believes your story... I am just saying that it is a likely possibility.

Dolly: Then that’s all the more reason to cooperate with us! Our goal is the same, isn’t it!?

Volker: That is why I am saying that I do not understand the reason for their refusal, given the theories I had proposed.

Dolly: Gah…

Volker: However… Whether we ask them or not, we did increase the amount of ways in which they can cooperate voluntarily, did we not?

Dolly: Er, I don’t get what you’re talking about, but…

Evan: I see~ If our objectives are the same, then we might as well go ahead and help them out, am I right?

Dolly: Ah, I get it. So, even if we’re not allies, we can cooperate from here on out, right?

Burgess: To think we've really been forced into a negotiation like this... is this alright with you?

Abel: Why not? It doesn’t matter how we beat Nandin, as long as we can do it.

Flost: Ah, if they’re logical rotun, then we might have a chance of success… We should work together and raise our possibility of winning.

Burgess: My apologies… Because I was a coward—

Abel: We told you, it’s fine, didn’t we? It’s not your fault, or anythin’! More importantly, what should we do?

Volker: First, we will collect the saltpetre that they had said they did not have enough of. Burgess and I know where to find it.

Abel: Alright! Let’s hurry and get it, then!

Translation notes:

1: With “the authorities”, Volker seems to be referring to the beasts. We decided to keep the literal translation of the word he uses, since it fits with his character.
